Have you run across this happening with any of the people you talk to? I’d run for the hills!!
Jennifer, Yes I have experienced something similar in the past. I wasn’t offered money, but I was baited with a sweet trip or two… just before I was told what was expected of me as a “first lady.” It was a trap I recommend others avoid because the expectations (much like job responsibilities) continually expanded.
On the other hand, more recently I was “wingspousing” it on a business trip and was later told my expenses would be covered as a thank-you for my efforts. I thought that was pretty cool and I am more motivated to go the extra mile for the company now.
I’d love to hear from others who have experienced something similar,
No, being a wingspouse in a marriage isn’t a “paid” position, at least not monetarily. It’s just like the stay at home mom debate, about how much it would cost someone to do that job…..being the spouse of the executive and/or the stay at home mom/dad can have fulfilling, invaluable opportunities for all involved…..there are definite advantages when both husband and wife recognize the possibilities available when both work together as a team.
Well said, Jan. My greatest reward is recognition from my spouse for a job well done.
